The mix shows how much of PlayStation’s business now comes from digital content, services, and recurring spending instead of boxed software alone.
What these PlayStation statistics show
PlayStation is now operating at a very large scale. Sony’s latest official figures show a platform with more than 92 million PS5 units sold-in, 132 million monthly active users, more than 1.566 billion PS4 and PS5 software units sold, and more than 51 billion annual gameplay hours. That combination points to a business that is no longer driven only by console launches, but by long-term engagement and spending across hardware, software, add-on content, and services.
The revenue mix also helps explain why Sony keeps emphasizing platform growth. In FY2024, add-on content, digital software, and network services together represented 63% of Game & Network Services sales, while hardware accounted for 24%. That suggests PlayStation’s long-term economics are increasingly tied to the installed base and recurring activity rather than one-time console purchases alone.
